Popular Styles: What Does Your Hat Style Reveal About You?

Every time we wear an outfit, we have a chance to send a message to the world about ourselves. Why else would people use the phrase “making a statement” in reference to clothing style? If there’s anything that can change your outfit’s message, it’s your hat choice.

So, what does your hat style reveal about you? Our guide will walk you through some of the most popular styles to help you make your fashion statement.

Baseball Hats

A baseball hat is probably one of the most common hats in the world. So, it’s no surprise that it can offer various messages depending on how you wear it and its particular design. To illustrate, we provide a few examples below:

  • Front-facing hat with logo: You’re fashion-forward, confident, and eager to promote yourself or the brand or community you come from.

  • Front-facing dad hat: You’re easygoing and enjoy taking life as it comes.

  • Backward-facing hat: You’re fun-loving, social, and laidback.

Of course, there is the sideways baseball hat as well. But since no one has actively worn a baseball cap sideways in over ten years, this mostly communicates that someone clings to the past.

Bucket Hats

The bucket hat has gone through a plethora of uses since its advent in the early 1900s. This has made it another versatile hat as far as self-expression goes.

A khaki bucket hat may denote that someone is practical and loves the outdoors. Any other type of bucket hat typically points to someone uninterested in blending in with the background.

Western Hats

Cowboy hats immediately call to mind a certain lifestyle. When you see one, you probably picture days spent under the wide-open sky sitting in a saddle. These hats relate to the life of a cowboy or rancher. And even if you don’t live that lifestyle yourself, wearing a cowboy hat implies a certain respect for it.

If you gravitate toward cowboy hats, you’re often down-to-earth and value family, tradition, your beliefs, and the mantra, “work hard, play harder.”

Trilbies and Fedoras

Popular culture often mistakes trilbies and fedoras for the same hat. And although they’re both linked with the early 20th-century jazz and big band era, there are differences between them.

The trilby is the more popular hat today and has a far shorter brim. These days, people often associate it with a desire to be countercultural and unique. Fedoras, the trilby’s wide-brimmed cousins, haven’t picked up as much 21st-century popularity. So, people with a deeper appreciation of the jazz-age aesthetic and elegance often wear them.

Of course, the best way to find out what your hat style reveals about you is to explore the endless hats out there. Here at Fashionable Hats, we have everything from felt porkpies to gorgeous Dobbs straw hats for your perusal.
